Edit Invoice Templates with GST Pro AI

Changing a font, adding a payment-terms block or matching your brand colours used to mean opening the Code Editor and working through Liquid. GST Pro AI lets you describe the change in plain language instead. It edits your template, shows the result on a real order in the live preview, and waits for you to save.

Availability

GST Pro AI works on V2 templates: invoices, packing slips, estimates (draft orders) and credit notes (refunds).
It is available on all paid plans. Every paid plan includes 500 AI credits each month; free plans do not include AI.
The template must have the Code Editor toggle on. That is what turns the template into your own customisable copy and reveals the Customize, AI and Code Editor tabs.

Opening the AI workspace

Go to Templates and click Edit on the template you want to change.
If you have not customised this template yet, turn on Code Editor.
Click the AI tab (wand icon).

The workspace has two halves. On the left is the GST Pro AI chat. On the right is the live preview, with the same order picker you already use and a Print button. The preview renders your template against the selected order, so you see the change exactly as your customer would.

Describing a change

Type what you want in the composer, for example:

Change font to Georgia
Update color scheme to pastel tones
Include a payment terms section
Add a footer with contact info
Move the GSTIN and place of supply into a box under the customer address
Make the totals table bold and right-aligned

Press Ctrl / ⌘ + Enter to send (Enter adds a new line). While GST Pro AI works, the status line shows what is happening: Sending your request…, Working on your template…, Applying changes to your preview…. Open Activity to see the individual steps it took, such as reading the template, patching a file and capturing a screenshot of the preview.

When it finishes you see: Changes are ready in the preview. Save when you're happy with them.

Reference images

Click the attachment icon or drag a PNG, JPEG or WebP (up to 5 MB) into the chat to give GST Pro AI a picture to work from, for example a screenshot of an invoice layout you like or your brand guidelines. One image per message.

Enhance prompt

Not sure how to phrase it? Type a rough draft and click the Enhance prompt wand. GST Pro AI rewrites your draft into a clearer, more specific request in place, and you can still edit it before sending.

Follow-ups, Undo and New chat

Keep chatting to refine the result. GST Pro AI remembers the conversation.
Undo restores the template files to the state before the last AI change.
New chat clears the conversation and starts fresh with the current template.

Saving

Nothing is saved automatically. AI changes live only in the editor and preview until you click the template's Save button, the same one you use after manual edits. If you leave without saving, the template stays as it was. You can also use Reset template at any time to return to the base template.

You can switch between the Customize, AI and Code Editor tabs freely. The chat and the pending changes stay in place until you pick a different template.

Credits

Every AI generation uses credits based on how much work it takes. Simple changes cost around 5 credits; larger rewrites cost more. Your current balance is shown in the chat header. Click it to see your plan allowance and to buy extra packs:

50 credits for $5
200 credits for $20
500 credits for $50

Purchases go through Shopify billing and are added to your balance immediately. Your monthly 500 credits are topped up at the start of each month, and unused credits carry over.

When your balance reaches zero, the composer is disabled with the message: You've used your credits. Your plan adds 500 credits next month, or you can buy a pack now.

Using GST Pro templates from Claude or ChatGPT through the MCP connector does not use GST Pro credits.

Good to know

GST Pro AI edits the template you have open: its Liquid layout, the settings shown under Customize, their current values and the order data query. It does not change your HSN codes, tax settings or other templates.
Prompts can be up to 20,000 characters.
The conversation is kept for about an hour. A single generation that takes longer than 10 minutes is stopped, and your template is left unchanged.
If live updates disconnect while a request is running, use Check for result rather than sending the request again.
