Difference Between “Tax All Products” and “Tax Only Taxable Products”

In GST Pro, you can control how GST is applied to your products using the Taxing Options setting. This setting determines whether GST is applied to:
All products, or
Only products marked as taxable in Shopify
Where to Find This Setting
Go to GST Pro in your Shopify admin
Open Settings
Click on Taxes
Locate Taxing Options



Taxing Options Explained
1. Tax All Products
GST will be applied to every product, regardless of its taxable status in Shopify.
When to Use
You want GST applied uniformly across all products
You are not using Shopify’s “taxable” checkbox
Key Behavior
Ignores Shopify’s “Charge tax on this product” setting
Ensures GST is always applied
2. Tax Only “Taxable” Products
GST will be applied only to products marked as taxable in Shopify.
When to Use
You sell a mix of taxable and non-taxable products
You want control at the product level
Key Behavior
Respects Shopify’s “Charge tax on this product” checkbox
GST is applied only where explicitly enabled
Where to Set “Taxable” in Shopify
To control which products are taxable:
Go to Products in Shopify admin
Open any product
Scroll to the Price section. Click on drop down arrow
Enable or disable:
“Charge tax on this product”

Example Scenarios
Scenario 1: All Products Taxable
Setting: Tax All Products
Result: GST applied to every product
Scenario 2: Mixed Product Types
Setting: Tax Only Taxable Products
Example:
Physical goods → Taxable
Gift cards / exempt items → Non-taxable
